It is hard to believe that we are in the second quarter already. Our first quarter book projects were a great success! The kids did so well sharing their projects and really inspired others to want to read their books.
In reading, we are working on plot diagrams and types of conflict. We are analyzing different plots and determining the type of conflict in the story (person vs. person, person vs. self, person vs. nature, and person vs. society). The class has been doing a great job with this!
In writing, we will be finishing our personal narratives and then working on essay writing and research. Be on the look out for information regarding biographies and the always anticipated 5th grade Wax Museum!
Besides working on growth mindset in the classroom, we are also working on respect. Respect is shown in many different ways. Currently, we are working on showing respect in the classroom when someone else is speaking. Many times, whether it is me or a student, there are lots of other students carrying on side conversations while someone is speaking to the class. Not only does the student who is carrying on a side conversation miss the information, but they also cause other students to miss out too. We have talked about how unfair it is to interrupt another's learning and how rude it is to not pay attention to someone who is speaking to you. We have had many conversations about this, but it is still not sinking in to many students. Respect is a very important thing, not just in school, but in life. We will continue to work on this very important concept.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me. The quickest way to reach me is by email ([email protected]). I have also let the class know that if they ever have questions outside of the school day, they can email me as well. Just yesterday, I received an email asking a question about a homework assignment. :)
Also, our Google Classroom site has the word study homework menu now posted under the "About" tab, just in case a word study book was left behind and a student needs to see the homework choices.
