About Mrs. Bass
Hello! This is my 19th year teaching at Carroll Manor. I taught 4th grade for 14 years and decided that, although I thoroughly enjoyed 4th, I was ready to tackle something new. I then taught 5th grade for four years. Fifth grade is such an interesting and amazing year, and it is a pleasure to be a part of transforming students into "middle schoolers." Now I am excited for my next adventure - teaching 3rd grade!
I graduated from Hood College in 1997 with a Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, and loved the campus so much that I later went back for my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in math and science. They are my favorite subjects to teach!
I have two children, Cayce and Ian. Cayce will be in 8th grade this year and Ian will be in 4th grade.
Before having children, I spent most of my time riding my motorcycle with my husband. We have nine (yes, 9!) vintage Honda motorcycles. We became accidental collectors. I have had my motorcycle license for 24 years. We have done long distance trips to Asheville, North Carolina and to Niagara Falls. Now that I have children, I rarely have the time to ride.
In my little bit of free time I enjoy reading and writing and doing various crafts. I love spending time at the beach. In addition to teaching, I have been working on a graduate level writing certification program at McDaniel College, called Writing for Children and Young Adults. So far, I have completed 3 of the 5 courses and have started a young adult fantasy novel. I have always enjoyed writing, but decided to finally get serious a few years ago. Besides helping to improve my own writing, I feel that these courses have helped me to better help my students with their writing.
